DUTIES: Directs all areas of environmental services, including housekeeping; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be met on or before the date of the written test:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
And
Seven years of satisfactory supervisory and/or administrative housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting.

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:
1. Ability to read and follow written instructions - These questions test for the ability to read, understand and apply written instructions for performing tasks similar to those encountered on the job. All the information needed to answer these questions will be provided in the test booklet.
2. Building cleaning - These questions test for knowledge of basic principles and practices of building cleaning. They will deal with, but not necessarily be limited to, such areas as equipment, tools, supplies, methods and procedures for cleaning different types of surfaces and materials under various, commonly occurring, circumstances.
3. Keeping simple inventory records - These questions test your skill in following instructions in order to keep accurate records of different materials received and distributed from a central location. You will be given written directions for a set of records and forms on which records are kept. You are to complete these forms from partially completed records or from lists of materials, then answer questions about the completed records. You may be asked to compute total costs from quantities and unit prices. The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide will be required. Specific knowledge of record keeping systems and techniques will not be needed.
4. Principles and practices of large scale laundry services - These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of large-scale laundry equipment including washers, extractors, ironers, and dryers; characteristics of different types of fabrics and proper laundering procedures for these fabrics; proper use of various cleaning agents used in laundering; and safe operating practices involved in large-scale laundering operations.
5. Supervision - These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.
NOTE: Unless otherwise notified, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards such as computers, spell-checkers, personal digital assistants, address books, language translators, dictionaries, and any similar devices are prohibited.
