GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises and directs the marine transportation units of the conservation department; operates and maintains conservation vessels and supervises subordinate personnel in work related to conservation projects; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general direction, this position requires the exercise of judgment in the planning, organizing, and directing of subordinate personnel engaged in the non-technical aspects of marine conservation.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises the operation and maintenance of all vessels engaged in marine conservation and waterways development program.
2.Inspects wildlife refuges, boat landings and marinas, and other marine nature study areas to ensure proper maintenance.
3.Trains subordinate personnel in the operation and maintenance of conservation vessels and equipment.
4.Plans, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance programs for vessels and equipment.
5.Maintains maintenance records and inventory logs.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the methods, techniques, and tools used in servicing and repairing marine engines and equipment.
2.Extensive knowledge of the methods and techniques used in operating marine vessels, engines and equipment.
3.Knowledge of oceanographic sampling equipment and their operation.
4.Ability to lay out and supervise the work of subordinate personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of marine vessels and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from high school
and
Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of vessels including two years in a supervisory capacity;
or
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.
