GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Operates emergency transport and provides first aid to patients in all phases of emergency technology as necessary; performs related duties as required. Certification as an Advanced Life Support Provider issued by Nassau County REMSCO (Regional Emergency Medical Services Council) must be obtained within the six month probationary period. Failure to successfully obtain this certification will result in termination.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve the use of considerable judgment under emergency conditions. Continuing study is required with recertification every three years.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Drives transport to and from emergency situations; transports cadavers as required.
*2.Renders assistance and first aid to patients as necessary; stabilizes and administers life support, i.e. intravenous injection, intramuscular medication, tracheotomy, defibrillation.
*3.Maintains contact with hospital for directions in the use of obstetrical, respiratory, and cardiac equipment.
*4.Transfers patients to and from transport.
*5.Assumes responsibility for availability of medical supplies and technical equipment, in working order, on the transport.
6.Prepares ambulance report forms on patients, as required.
7.May provide emergency medical care instruction and training to others, including new and previously certified technicians.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of first aid techniques and all phases of medical emergency technology.
2.Considerable skill and ability in handling transport at high rates of speed.
3.Skill and ability in making decisions under emergency circumstances.
4.Skill and ability in operating medical emergency equipment in the transport.
5.Ability to follow instructions.
6.Ability to prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Three years satisfactory experience as a driver of an emergency vehicle.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Continuing possession of a valid appropriate class Driver License issued by the State of New York.
2.Continuing possession of a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician-Critical Care or
higher, issued by the New York State Department of Health.
