GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises inmates and installs, maintains, and repairs pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, toilets, air conditioning fixtures, heating fixtures, and other plumbing facilities in a penal institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position requires the use of judgment and skill, and the work is reviewed for quality and completeness; position also requires sound judgment in maintaining institutional security.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Bends pipe, cuts, reams, and threads pipe, welds pipe and pipe fittings, using a variety of hand tools and equipment.
2.Opens clogged pipes and traps, tests facilities for leaks, and checks pressure.
3.Supervises and instructs assigned inmates.
4.Inspects inmates for contraband and maintains security precautions at all times.
5.Makes work time estimates, and keeps simple records.
6.Performs a variety of maintenance tasks as required.
7.Performs duties as a Correction Officer on a temporary basis, as required, at the discretion of the Sheriff of his designated officer.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
2.Knowledge of flows, pressure, and capacities of water tanks, piping, and other equipment.
3.Skill in the care and use of plumbing tools and equipment.
4.Ability to learn use and care of firearms.
5.Ability to install, repair, and maintain a variety of plumbing facilities.
6.Ability to supervise and instruct inmates and to maintain security precautions.
7.Ability to work from and interpret sketches and blueprints and to make work time estimates.
8.Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training
and
Four years of satisfactory experience in the plumbing trade;
or
2.Six years of satisfactory experience in the plumbing trade.
Necessary Special Requirement
Candidates for this title cannot be approved until they have satisfactory Civil Service medical and psychological reports.
