GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of unskilled manual maintenance and repair tasks in a penal institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the work is routine and repetitive. Judgment is required in maintaining institutional security.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Performs unskilled maintenance of equipment.
2.Loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
3.Assists in the inventory and receiving of supplies and equipment.
4.Assists with simple repairs and maintenance of kitchen utensils, screens, windows, doors, floors, walls, light fixtures, painting, laundry equipment and a variety of other fixtures and equipment.
5.Assists with repairs and maintenance of cell doors, locks, bars, and lock boxes.
6.May assist in ground maintenance.
7.Performs duties as Correction Officer on a temporary basis, as required, at the discretion of the Sheriff or his designated officer.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Ability to learn the care and use of standard tools.
2.Ability to follow oral instructions.
3.Good physical condition and health in order to perform manual labor for extended periods.
4.Ability to learn the use and care of firearms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
No formal education or experience requirement.

Necessary Special Requirement
Candidates for this title cannot be approved until they have satisfactory Civil Service medical and psychological reports.
