GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Advises the Commission on employment suitability, and coordinates and performs employment examinations for Civil Service positions; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under administrative direction, the duties require the use of independent judgment in providing medical advice to the Commission and in the performance of professional medical services.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.
Develops and updates medical requirements and standards, where necessary, for employees and candidates for fulfilling the essential functions of their particular employment.

2.
Organizes, supervises, and conducts medical examinations for law enforcement candidates.
3.
Certifies to the Commission the ability of every county job candidate to physically fulfill the requirements of the position.

4.
Proposes to the Commission all medical requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
5.
Evaluates and makes recommendations of need for "reasonable accommodation" for disabled employees or candidates under the ADA.
6.
Advises the Commission in matters of potential or actual litigation where medical questions are a factor.

7.
Assists the Commission's counsel in the preparation of documents involving medical matters, and provides medical testimony in cases involving the Commission.

8.
Advises the Commission on matters requiring its intervention on medical questions of disability under ADA.
9.
Maintains and updates roster of board qualified and certified expert consultants prepared to render services on behalf of the Commission.
10.
Coordinates and conducts employment physical examinations as required by the Nassau County Civil Service Commission, and examines employees returning from sick leave, where indicated.
11.
Supervises clerical staff in the preparation of medical examination reports.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine.
2.Thorough knowledge of the medical provisions of ADA dealing with employment, disability, and "reasonable accommodation of the disabled."
3.Knowledge of Civil Service laws and regulations as they pertain to medical matters.
4.Ability to provide medical testimony.
5.Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and associates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Continuing possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State
and
Three years of satisfactory experience in performing employment medical examinations which included responsibility for providing medical testimony concerning employment suitability.
