GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs highly skilled and supervisory work binding, repairing, and restoring books, and assembling documents into bound volumes; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position requires the use of considerable judgment in planning, organizing, and supervising the work of subordinates engaged in bookbinding operations.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises subordinates engaged in binding, restoring, and repairing of books.
2.Supervises and participates in forming and finishing books.
3.Performs hand lettering, tooling, and gold stamping.
4.Supervises miscellaneous binding operations such as cutting stock, hand sewing, wire stitching, and gluing.
5.Maintains inventory records and requisitions materials as needed.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, and techniques involved in binding, repair, and restoration of books.
2.Thorough knowledge of the use, care, and maintenance of bookbinding equipment.
3.Ability to restore and repair damaged books.
4.Ability to bind new books, records, and documents.
5.Ability to perform hand lettering and gold stamping.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Three years of satisfactory experience in bookbinding, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the three-year requirement, may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
