GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in designing and then creates, builds, shapes, and maintains and repairs unique wooden and/or plastic devices to assist students with physical disabilities to become more independent; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of independent judgment and skill in the use of manual and power tools.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Creates, builds, and shapes unique devices out of wood and/or plastic for physically disabled students.
2.Operates various hand and power tools used in woodworking such as, saws, lathes, planers, sanders, and other tools and equipment.
3.Confers with occupational and physical therapists, teachers, and consultant bio-engineer to design appropriate devices.
4.Repairs and alters these devices, as required.
5.Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean and in good condition.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in woodworking and carpentry.
2.Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various woods and plastics.
3.Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in woodworking and for working on plastics.
4.Ability to build and shape unique devices out of wood and/or plastic for physically disabled students.
5.Ability to work from sketches and plans and to follow oral and written descriptions and instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from vocational or trade school
and
One year of satisfactory experience as a carpenter or carpenter's helper;
or
2.Three years of satisfactory experience as outlined above.
