GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs technical work and assists in coordinating the operation of a darkroom used in the reproduction printing offset process; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require judgment in planning the operation of a darkroom used in the reproduction printing facility; assists in training and supervising subordinate personnel.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists in operating darkroom cameras.
2.Assists in developing negatives, using appropriate solutions and mixtures of chemicals.
3.Assists in cutting ruled masking sheets to size for stripping and in cutting and assembling negatives on a flat, according to size of finished printed materials.
4.Assists in determining approach to printed pages for imposition, registration, work and turn or work and tumble.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of various types of darkroom camera lenses for use in processing line and halftone negatives.
2.Knowledge of filters used for color separation work.
3.Knowledge of minimum and maximum image printing capabilities of various offset printing presses.
4.Knowledge of minimum and maximum image printing capabilities of various offset printing presses.
5.Ability to train and supervise personnel in proper procedures used in reproduction printing offset process.
6.Ability to maintain all types of darkroom equipment, including proper storage of supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Three years of satisfactory experience developing, enlarging, and copying negatives and prints or performing other finishing, darkroom processes.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the three-year requirement, may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
