GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs physical, biological, and chemical laboratory procedures associated with patient oriented research studies; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of independent judgment in conducting independent research and in supervising the work of subordinate medical technologists.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Performs laboratory procedures that include radiation dosimetry, radiobiological studies on animal and tissue culture systems, and associated microscopic and chemical technology.
2.Plans and conducts independent research.
3.Prepares reports in the areas of specialization.
4.Supervises the work of subordinate staff.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of basic research principles in natural sciences.
2.Knowledge of current developments in radiation biology.
3.Skill in the use, operation, and care of laboratory equipment.
4.Ability to conduct independent research.
5.Ability to prepare reports in the areas of specialization.
6.Ability to supervise the work of subordinate medical technologists.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Bachelor's degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university, or one approved by New York State
and
One year of satisfactory laboratory experience in the use and application of radiation to physical, biological, and/or chemical procedures;
or
2.A satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.
