GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Operates a school bus and performs elementary maintenance activities in connection with such operation. Rides on a school bus for the purpose of maintaining order and/or supervising the loading and unloading of buses at the various stopping points; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the work involves considerable responsibility for the safety of school children on bus trips to and from school.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Operates a school bus to transport children.
2.Maintains order on bus and makes certain that children are seated while bus is in motion.
3.Supervises loading and unloading of bus.
4.Helps children cross highway in safety.
5.Assists pupils and drivers as needed.
6.Performs a variety of elementary maintenance activities on an occasional basis.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of the operation of buses.
2.Ability to maintain order amongst the children riding the school bus.
3.Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Possession of a valid New York State driver's license with no convictions for moving violations during the past year and appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age.

NOTE:Candidates must satisfy all requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
