GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs work of a preventive and therapeutic nature in a clinic or health facility; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties involve the use of independent judgment in the application of Department's policies and regulations.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Interviews, screens, and motivates persons to obtain treatment in a comprehensive health or drug abuse program.
2.Provides community follow-up for patients from the County Jail, residential treatment facilities, and clinics.
3.Maintains liaison with various community agencies to insure maximum use of resources providing training and employment opportunities for patients and former patients.
4.Maintains records and performs routine clerical duties.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of methods and procedures used in the treatment and prevention of disease, drug abuse and other health related problems.
2.Knowledge of the resources available providing training and employment opportunities for patients and former patients.
3.Knowledge of the techniques of interviewing and health counseling.
4.Ability to establish and maintain rapport with individuals under a physical and/or emotional strain.
5.Ability to keep simple records and perform routine clerical duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of two years of high school
and
One year of satisfactory experience in a therapeutic or volunteer program involving personal relationships with clients in such fields as health counseling, drug abuse, alcoholism, anti-poverty or relevant qualifying social work.
