GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises and performs complex assessment of industrial and commercial structures for tax purposes in the jurisdictional areas of Nassau County; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require planning, organizing and directing the activities of subordinates engaged in assessing industrial and commercial property and requires exercise of considerable judgment in independently assessing large industrial structures.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Plans, assigns, directs and reviews work of subordinates engaged in assessing industrial and commercial structures to establish taxes.
2.Gathers pertinent data of commercial or industrial buildings such as size, type of construction, location and age to serve as a basis for determining assessable values.
3.Applies on the basis of knowledge, experience and sound judgment a "Flat Price" value.
4.Investigates and prepares reports of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and processing.
5.Reviews and analyzes reports of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and processing.
6.Recommends changes regarding the physical and functional depreciation factors affecting the value of improvements of industrial and commercial structures.
7.Discusses assessment procedures and problems with taxpayers or their representatives.
8.Assists subordinates in making field inspections pertinent to resolving difficult and complex problems.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the general principles, methods and techniques of real property evaluation for tax assessment in the jurisdictional areas of Nassau County.
2.Considerable knowledge of industrial and commercial construction methods and materials.
3.Considerable knowledge of the theory of values as applied to industrial and commercial assessment.
4.Ability to plan, assign and review the work of subordinates.
5.Ability to make arithmetical computations with accuracy and speed.
6.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with taxpayers or their representatives.
7.Ability to prepare oral or written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from high school
and
Six years of satisfactory experience in estimating or appraising real property, building or construction work, including two years of supervisory experience;
or
2.Eight years of experience as outlined above and four years of supervisory experience.

Necessary Special Requirement
Continuing possession of certification issued by the Institute of Assessing Officers (IAO).
