GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, assists in the planning and operation of a sanitation department. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists the Superintendent in the planning and scheduling of refuse collection activities, maintenance of equipment and employee operation records.
2.Assists in the enforcing of rules and regulations pertaining to public and private refuse collection; assists in the action taken on all complaints pertaining to garbage, refuse, littering of roads and highways.
3.Assists in the administration and enforcement of safety rules and regulations within the department.
4.Assists the Superintendent in the preparation of departmental budget estimates, computation of costs and preparation of detailed statistical reports relative to the department.
5.Assists in the preparation of specifications and reviewing of bids on major supplies and equipment for approval by higher authority.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of administrative and technical methods and procedures involved in planning, developing and operating sanitation programs.
2.Thorough knowledge of vehicles and equipment used for refuse collection.
3.Ability to assist in planning, directing and coordinating sanitation activities.
4.Ability to assist in preparation of detailed statistical reports.
5.Ability to enforce rules and regulations and to supervise large numbers of employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from high school and six years of progressively responsible experience in various phases of garbage and refuse collection and disposal work, including three years in a supervisory or administrative capacity;
or
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
