GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in a penal institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the position requires the limited use of judgment and skill and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness and requires sound judgment in maintaining institutional security.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Participates in the repairs, maintenance and inspection of cell doors, cell bars, cots and related equipment.
2.Participates in the repairs, maintenance and inspection of door locks and lock boxes.
3.Performs routine maintenance on kitchen utensils, screens, windows, doors, floors, walls, light fixtures, painting, laundry equipment and a variety of other fixtures and equipment.
4.Supervises and instructs inmates in general cleaning and maintenance activities.
5.Participates in the inspection of inmates for contraband and maintains security precautions at all times.
6.Assists in the inventory and receiving of supplies and equipment.
7.Participates in the performance of a variety of routine and emergency maintenance and repair tasks as required.
8.Performs duties as Correction Officer on a temporary basis, as required, at the discretion of the Sheriff or his designated officer.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
2.Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in maintenance tasks.
3.Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
4.Ability to supervise and instruct inmates in general cleaning and maintenance activities and to maintain security precautions.
5.Ability to work quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.
6.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
7.Ability in the use and care of firearms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training
and
Two years of satisfactory experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities;
or
2.Four years of satisfactory experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities.

Necessary Special Requirement
Candidates for this title cannot be approved until they have satisfactory Civil Service medical and psychological reports.
