GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs manual work in the operation of heavy and intermediate, motorized construction and maintenance equipment; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require skill in operating assigned equipment and the use of judgment in supervising subordinate personnel. The work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Operates cranes, motor graders, asphalt distributors, heavy rollers, intermediate and heavy bulldozers, heavy tractor trailers, and other heavy, motorized equipment.
2.Services and performs minor maintenance work on assigned equipment.
3.Supervises laborers or other assigned personnel.
4.Instructs lower-level equipment operators in the operation of heavy equipment.
5.Maintains mileage record of equipment operated.
6.Performs a variety of manual or laboring tasks, as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of the care and safe operation of heavy and intermediate, motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
2.Ability to operate heavy, motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
3.Ability to service and perform minor maintenance work on assigned equipment.
4.Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.
5.Ability to perform a variety of manual or laboring tasks.
6.Ability to maintain simple records and to follow oral instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of eighth grade education
and either
a.One year of satisfactory experience in the operation of heavy, motorized construction or maintenance equipment;
or
b.Completion of at least one year of on-the-job training to acquire demonstrated skill in the operation of heavy equipment.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver's License issued by the State of New York.
