GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs one or more of a wide variety of maintenance tasks in the upkeep of buildings, machinery, furniture, metal work, and electrical, plumbing, steam, and automotive equipment; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, employees in this class perform miscellaneous maintenance tasks requiring knowledge of one or more trades. General instructions are received regarding what tasks to perform, and considerable leeway is permitted for planning technical details of each assignment.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Prepares and paints or varnishes interior or exterior building surfaces and allied equipment; mixes colors, as required; assists in hanging wallpaper.
2.Repairs, cleans, and assists in the installation of plumbing, heating, refrigeration, laundry, or sewer equipment and machinery; cuts and threads pipes, resets sanitary fixtures, and makes minor repairs to pipe lines, as required.
3.Uses a variety of hand and power tools in construction, remodeling, or repairing doors, window frames, floors, cabinets, furniture, moldings, scaffolds, and steps; installs locks, glass, and refinishes furniture or makes concrete forms, as required.
4.Inspects, repairs, and installs a wide variety of electrical equipment, fixtures, and wiring.
5.Mixes and applies cement or plaster to floors, walls, ceilings; lays bricks and tiles and finishes tile flooring; makes repairs to tile roofs, as required.
6.Supervises unskilled or semi-skilled personnel assigned to assist in performing one or more of the maintenance duties illustrated above, as required.
7.Keeps working tools, equipment, and work area clean and in good condition.

1.Knowledge of construction and maintenance materials and methods.
2.Ability to use tools effectively.
3.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
4.Ability to direct and supervise personnel assigned to assist in performing maintenance tasks.
5.Physical strength and agility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from a vocational or trade school
and
One year of experience in performing general or specialized maintenance and repair tasks in buildings, and on various types of machinery, equipment, furniture, and tools.
or
2.Three years of satisfactory experience as outlined above.
