GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises, organizes, and coordinates the activities of subordinate staff in the administration of a methadone maintenance clinic; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision of the Director and Medical Director of the Methadone Maintenance Program, the duties require the application of initiative and judgment in managing the operation of a methadone maintenance clinic and in developing appropriate policy, rules, and procedures.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises and coordinates registered nurses and subordinate staff in administering methadone, medical planning and follow-up, crisis care intervention and referral, and the maintenance of accurate clinical records.
2.Maintains adequate nursing coverage; assigns nursing staff to home and hospital visits.
3.Provides instruction in and implements specialized nursing techniques; supervises training of new personnel and medical personnel regarding drug addiction and methadone treatment.
4.Assesses patient problems and refers patients to appropriate clinics and other outside agencies.
5.Coordinates the screening and processing of new admissions to the Methadone Program.
6.Interprets program to interested individuals, agencies, and groups.
7.Participates in formulating new policies with the Director and Medical Director of Methadone Maintenance Program.
8.Attends lectures, seminars, and workshops relevant to new treatment and methodology procedure.
9.Assumes responsibility for functioning of clinic in absence of Director and Medical Director.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, practices and procedures.
2.Thorough knowledge of methadone maintenance treatment programs and their application to nursing services at a treatment center.
3.Ability to evaluate the needs and problems of methadone patients.
4.Ability to train, direct and supervise subordinate nurses and non-professional personnel at a methadone treatment center.
5.Ability to express oneself effectively.
6.Ability to develop and maintain good public relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Three years of professional nursing experience in a methadone maintenance treatment center, of which one year was in a supervisory or administrative capacity;
or
2.Graduation from and accredited school of nursing
and
Five years of professional nursing experience in a methadone maintenance treatment center, of which one year was in a supervisory or administrative capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
