GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs advanced semi-professional nursing duties in the care and treatment of patients and their quarters in a hospital or institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision of a registered graduate nurse or physician, performs work according to standard practices. The duties include responsibility for supervision of non-professional subordinates.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises and assists in the supervision of non-professional employees in patient care and treatment.
2.Administers medications and treatments as prescribed.
3.Collects specimens as prescribed.
4.Records all observations, treatments, medications and care on patient's record.
5.Follows the outlined program established for individualized patient care.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of basic practical nursing theory and related techniques.
2.Knowledge of materials used and the processes involved in patient care and treatment.
3.Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
4.Ability to maintain records and charts.
5.Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward patients.
6.Ability to supervise non-professional employees in patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing, or completion of equivalent study in an approved program in professional nursing
and
Three years of practical nursing experience.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a current license or the eligibility to be licensed, as a practical nurse in the State of New York.
