GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises the painting of buildings, fixtures, and equipment in a public institution or agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve the exercise of judgment in planning and directing the activities of subordinates.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises the preparation and painting of buildings and a variety of fixtures and equipment.
2.Supervises the safe erection of scaffolding and setting of ladders.
3.Inspects completed work for quality and completeness.
4.Prepares time and equipment estimates, keeps records, and prepares reports.
5.Submits requisitions for paints, painting tools, and other related equipment.
6.Instructs painters and helpers in proper methods and procedures.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the painting trade.
2.Considerable skill in the care and use of painting tools, materials, and equipment.
3.Ability to supervise and inspect the preparation of surfaces to be painted, the mixing and matching of paints, and the application of paints and other finishes to a variety of surfaces.
4.Ability to prepare work-time and equipment estimates and to keep records and prepare reports.
5.Ability to participate in skilled painting activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of vocational school training
and
Six years of satisfactory experience as a painter or painter's helper two of which must have been at the journeyman's level;
or
2.Eight years of satisfactory experience as a painter or painter's helper two of which must have been at the journeyman's level.
