GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, directs, and supervises the grounds maintenance operation at all sewer-related facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve the exercise of independent judgment in planning and supervising the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel engaged in groundskeeping activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Plans, supervises and directs grounds maintenance activities at all sewage treatment plants and sewage pumping stations.
2.Implements landscaping techniques to control odor, conserve water, and enhance the appearance of sewer-related facilities.
3.Supervises the refurbishing of sewage contaminated soil and the emergency cleaning of contaminated soil.
4.Coordinates the acquisition and planting of turf, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
5.Supervises the application of fungicides, insecticides, and weed killers.
6.Supervises the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports.
7.Supervises the preparation of purchase requisitions for groundskeeping equipment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of grounds maintenance, including turf, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
2.Extensive knowledge of the horticultural problems involved in landscaping with contaminated soil.
3.Extensive knowledge of fungicides, insecticides, and weed killers used in grounds maintenance.
4.Ability to plan, supervise, and direct the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel.
5.Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Eight years of satisfactory experience in the care and maintenance of sewer related facility grounds and mechanized groundskeeping equipment, including four years in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of an appropriate class, valid driver license issued by the State of New York.

NOTE:1.Education, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, with courses in horticulture, landscape development, or related field may be substituted for the non-supervisory work experience described above on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
2.Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the eight-year requirement, may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
