GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, assists in the erection, installation and maintenance of electric power lines and poles; performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists line maintainer in setting and equipping poles; digs holes for power poles; passes tools and equipment from ground to pole by tying them to a line and pulling them up.
2.Raises poles by means of a winch; trims trees in the path of overhead wires; may assist (from ground) in stringing cables.
3.Performs assigned tasks designed to acquaint employee with all the aspects of a line maintainer's work.
4.May operate a line truck; may be responsible for the maintenance of the truck and the stock and equipment used by the line maintainer.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Elementary knowledge of tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of electric power lines and poles.
2.Ability to trim trees.
3.Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
4.Where required, ability to operate a motor vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of elementary school and six months of ground experience in the installation and maintenance of power lines and poles; or,
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.

Necessary Special Requirement
Where required, possession of an appropriate class, valid driver license issued by the State of New York.
