GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises subordinate lifeguards and safeguards the lives of patrons using water facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in training and instructing subordinate lifeguard personnel in lifesaving and first aid measures and techniques.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Conducts regular lifesaving drills throughout the season.
*
2.Prepares time and work schedules and assigns specific tasks and work areas to subordinates.
*
3.Supervises the care and use of all lifesaving equipment.
*
4.Inspects equipment and work areas to insure the safety and cleanliness of facilities for the patrons.
*
5.Directs lifesaving activities and prepares detailed reports on accidents or drownings.
*
6.Responsible for enforcing rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to the use of water facilities.
7.Keeps time records.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of lifesaving methods and techniques and water safety measures.
2.Extensive knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
3.Extensive knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
4.Considerable swimming skill.
5.Ability to train and instruct subordinates.
6.Ability to plan and schedule the work of subordinates.
7.Ability to maintain records and prepare accurate reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Grade I A or B - Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/70 vision in one eye, corrected to 20/40.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

Grade II - Calm Water and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

Grade III - Ocean, Calm Water and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
