GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs responsible administrative duties in directing the maintenance activities at the Town golf course; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of independent judgment in planning, organizing, and directing all maintenance and related activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.
Plans, organizes, and directs all maintenance and reconstruction programs at the Town golf course in conformance with standards set by the United States Golf Association and any governmental regulatory agencies.
2.
Plans and directs the construction, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and drainage systems and ornamental plantings at the golf course.
3.
Develops and supervises preventative maintenance programs for turf, and prepares irrigating schedules.
4.
Assists in the preparation of budgetary requests for all material, equipment, and supplies used at the golf course.
5.
Determines types of sprays meeting Long Island Environmental Standards.
6.
Supervises spraying, watering, and grooming of all fairways, greens, tees, practice putting greens, and driving areas.
7.
Plans and oversees the orientation of new employees.
8.
Supervises the preparation of work schedules.
9.
Investigates complaints and recommends appropriate action.
10.
Conducts staff meetings, and prepares written reports.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.
Extensive knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures, materials, tools and equipment, used in the maintenance of golf courses.
2.
Extensive knowledge of the installation, location, and operation of irrigation and drainage systems.
3.
Extensive knowledge of the design, location, and construction of greens, tees, bunkers, and practice greens.
4.
Extensive knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
5.
Thorough knowledge of pesticides and their application.
6.
Considerable knowledge of environmental water treatments.
7.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel in large scale golf maintenance and repair projects.
8.
Ability to supervise the maintenance of accurate records and the preparation of detailed reports.
9.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
10.
Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, with major coursework in ornamental horticulture or turf management.
and
Six years of satisfactory experience in the maintenance of regulation golf courses, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Possession of a current valid certificate from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as a Certified Commercial Applicator, in Pest Control, category 3A, Ornamental and Shade Trees, including Turf.
2.As part of the above-mentioned certificate, categories 5A, Aquatic (Vegetation) and 5B, Aquatic (Insect)must be obtained within 12 months of the date of appointment.
NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the six-year requirement, may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
