GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, conducts and coordinates with other Specialists an activities program for handicapped persons on a year-round basis; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of independent judgment in planning and implementing a variety of activities for handicapped children to meet program objectives.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Instructs the handicapped participants in various recreational activities in a group program for the handicapped.
2.Teaches various arts and crafts geared to the limitation of handicapped children and young adults.
3.Organizes and conducts various entertainment programs, such as concerts, talent shows, and dances, specifically designed for handicapped persons of a variety of ages.
4.Conducts tours and field trips to various points of interest.
5.Addresses various groups and organizations about the Town's recreational activities for the handicapped.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the various recreational and educational activities appropriate for handicapped persons.
2.Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and techniques of working with handicapped people.
3.Ability to instruct and organize activities for handicapped persons.
4.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
One year of experience in educational and/or recreational activities for the handicapped;
or
2.Bachelor's degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Six months of experience in education and/or recreational activities for the handicapped.

NOTE: Completion of course work as part of a Master's program in Special Education may be
substituted for the experience requirement on a prorated basis.
