GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in the implementation and functioning of outreach programs offering services, information, orientation and counseling to local communities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the work is non-professional, involving extensive personal contact with, and acceptance by, members of the community.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Visits homes, day care centers, nursery schools, churches and community centers to distribute literature on departmental programs and to set up meetings for parent education.
2.Contacts clients on missed clinic appointments, to explain need for visits from the public health sanitarians, to educate them on health problems, and to identify their needs and make proper referrals.
3.Participates in presenting health programs at gatherings and meetings.
4.Develops rapport with teens and young adults to encourage good health habits.
5.Attends staff education meetings.
6.Maintains simple records and prepares reports on activities.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Ability to learn the various public services offered by the Health Department.
2.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
3.Ability to communicate effectively in the language or terminology of the community served and English.
4.Ability to read and write.
5.Ability to establish rapport with clients.
6.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of two years of high school
and
Two years of satisfactory experience in community outreach activities.

NOTE:Candidate must be acceptable to the community where position is applicable.
