GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs and supervises the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of all County golf courses, driving ranges, and motor cart facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of considerable independent judgment in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel involved in the maintenance and operation of golf courses and related facilities.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.
Directs golf management personnel and coordinates operations of all County golf courses, driving ranges, and motor cart facilities.
*
2.
Plans, organizes, and directs all maintenance and rehabilitation projects at County golf courses in conformance with various golf course standards.
*
3.
Prepares budget for each golf-related facility, including short- and long-term capital improvement projects.
*
4.
Develops preventative maintenance programs for turf and its effect on the environment in consultation with greenskeeping personnel.
*
5.
Plans and directs the construction, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and drainage systems and ornamental plantings at all County golf courses.
*
6.
Plans and coordinates the purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies necessary to the operation and maintenance of golf-related facilities.
7.
Plans and develops all aspects of golf tournaments and golf outings.
8.
Investigates golf-related complaints and recommends or takes appropriate action.
*
9.
Maintains records for each golf-related facility, prepares written reports, and conducts staff meetings with subordinate supervisory personnel.
10.
Interviews and directs the orientation of new golf personnel.
11.
Attends related seminars and conferences, as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the operation and maintenance of golf courses, including methods, practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and operation of golf courses and related facilities.
2.Extensive knowledge of the design, location, and construction of greens, tees, bunkers, and practice greens.
3.Extensive knowledge of irrigation and drainage systems.
4.Extensive knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
5.Thorough knowledge of golf course concessions.
6.Ability to supervise the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel in golf course operations and maintenance.

7.Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and the preparation of detailed reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Ten years of experience in the operation or maintenance of golf courses, including seven years in a supervisory capacity.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the ten-year requirement, may substitute for college education on a year-for-year basis.
