GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Maintains safety conditions, participates in rescue operations, and renders first aid; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require prompt and effective action in emergency situations.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Patrols areas and observes activities; enforces safety rules and regulations in order to prevent accidents or injuries.
*
2.Assists with rescue of helpless swimmers; administers first aid, and applies resuscitation measures when necessary.
*
3.Keeps first aid supplies and resuscitation equipment ready for immediate use.
4.May give swimming instructions.
5.May assist in the preparation of accident reports.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of first aid, rescue, and resuscitation techniques, and equipment.
2.Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
3.Considerable swimming skill.
4.Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
5.Ability to follow oral and written directions.
6.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
