GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs, coordinates, and supervises all activities of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under administrative direction, the duties require the use of considerable judgment in developing and implementing agency policy and procedures. Supervision is exercised over a subordinate staff of administrative, counseling, and clerical personnel.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Formulates and implements departmental policy, methods, and procedures.
*
2.Directs the administration of the Veterans Service Agency, including operational, personnel, and budget matters.
*
3.Supervises veteran counseling.
*
4.Reviews and evaluates reports; interprets new policies and procedures.
*
5.Establishes and maintains liaison with related government agencies and veteran organizations.
6.Gathers data or information for department use.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of government laws and regulations pertaining to veterans.
2.Extensive knowledge of all services, facilities, and benefits available to veterans.
3.Ability to organize and direct all activities of a veterans agency.
4.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, veteran organizations, government agencies, and the public.
6.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
One year of satisfactory experience assisting individuals in resolving financial, employment, or benefit claim problems; or involvement in veterans' activities.

Necessary Special Requirement
Evidence of being an honorably discharged veteran, or released under honorable conditions, from the Armed Forces of the United States.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the one-year requirement, may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years.
