GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, designs, and builds large and elaborate display exhibits; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position involves the responsibility for independent planning, designing, and building of a variety of exhibits used for educational, display or promotional purposes, and supervision of Exhibits Technicians and coordinating the activities of contractors.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Plans, designs, and builds exhibits by the use of paintings, photographs, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing devices including moving parts and lighting effects and dioramas.
2.Supervises the construction of exhibits, making quality determinations and certifying acceptance of contractor performance.
3.Supervises and advices technicians in the construction of exhibits.
4.Continuously reviews exhibits for possible improvement, and makes recommendation for updating and other changes.
5.Prepares specifications for new exhibits and exhibit facilities.
6.Prepares estimates of cost for rehabilitation and construction of exhibits.
7.Reviews all draft copy of publications for necessary art work, prepares art work, or directs its preparation.
8.Maintains contacts within the field, to keep up to date on available equipment, apparatus, and availability of qualified people for contractual work.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the principles of layout and design of exhibits and displays.
2.Considerable knowledge of principles, methods, and materials used in designing and building mechanical and electrical exhibits.
3.Considerable knowledge of audio-visual devices and equipment.
4.Skill in the use of hand tools and equipment in making mechanical and electrical devices and models.
5.Skill in designing and building exhibits.
6.Ability to prepare original designs for exhibits.
7.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with major course work in art
and
Five years of experience in planning, designing, and building exhibits and displays, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

NOTE:1.A Master's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with major course work in art may be substituted for one year of above experience.
2.Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the five-year requirement may be substituted for college on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
3.The two-year requirement of supervisory experience must be met in either case.
