GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of subordinate lifeguards engaged in safeguarding the lives of patrons using water facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general direction, requires the exercise of independent judgment in directing the training and instruction of lifeguard personnel in lifesaving and first aid and enforcement of safety regulations.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Plans, coordinates, and supervises the training, testing, duties, discipline, assignment, and scheduling of subordinate lifeguards.
2.Schedules and conducts lifesaving tests and drills throughout the season.
3.Directs lifesaving activities and the enforcement of rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to the use of water facilities.
4.Inspects beach and pool facilities and equipment for safety, adequateness, and cleanliness.
5.Prepares time and work schedules, and assigns duties and areas.
6.Supervises and instructs the use and care of lifeguard equipment.
7.Supervises the maintenance of records and preparation of reports.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of lifesaving methods and techniques and water safety measures.
2.Extensive knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
3.Extensive knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
4.Ability to train, instruct, and test subordinates.
5.Ability to plan, schedule, and supervise the work of subordinates.
6.Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Eight seasons of progressively more responsible experience as a lifeguard, including three seasons in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
