GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs and coordinates skilled work in the painting, construction and installation and maintenance of signs; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require planning, organizing and directing skilled activities in the highway sign shop.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Surveys roads and inspects for damage, missing and needed replacement of signs.
2.Prepares and interprets sketches and diagrams relating to positioning of signs and specifications for sign construction.
3.Insures visibility of signs and sees that they are installed according to prescribed specifications.
4.Requisitions supplies and equipment and supervises the storage, receiving, and issuing of all tools, materials and equipment; estimates labor and equipment needs.
5.Maintains time and equipment records and prepares reports.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in the painting, construction and installation of signs.
2.Considerable knowledge of New York State Manual of Uniform Controls and Devices relating to sign construction and installation.
3.Some knowledge of the principles of traffic engineering.
4.Ability to direct and coordinate skilled work in sign shop activities and installation of signs.
5.Ability to estimate labor and equipment needs and to supervise the requisitioning and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
6.Ability to keep comprehensive records and prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from vocational or high school
and
Four years of satisfactory experience in the production, maintenance, installation and/or removal of signs, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Continued)

Necessary Special Requirement
Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid driver license issued by the State of New York.

NOTE:Experience in excess of the required four years may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
