GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under supervision, splices and pulls overhead and underground cable used for transmission and distribution of electricity; performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Splices wires to join conductor cables in order to preserve the continuity and insulation of each conductor.
2.Splices wires at junction of two cables and insulates splices by drying out moisture, wrapping with paraffin-soaked muslin, and by covering splices with a lead sleeve.
3.Tests pairs of wires for electrical continuity and insulation by means of a buzzer system.
4.Repairs and replaces automatic underground switches, performs maintenance service on primary and secondary underground cables; connects house services.
5.May work on fire alarm and traffic signal systems; may be called out during emergencies to restore power.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Working knowledge of the methods and techniques used in cable splicing.
2.Elementary knowledge of the theory and principles of power distribution.
3.Ability to splice and pull overhead and underground power cables.
4.Ability to understand and follow instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of elementary school and three years of experience as a cable splicer on power distribution systems;
or,
2.Graduation from an electrical trade school and two years of experience as in (a);
or,
3.Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
