GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, performs legal research and a variety of duties relevant to the legal officers of a municipal jurisdiction. Performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.
Performs legal research and prepares reports.
2.
Assists in the drafting of opinions on legal matters.
3.
Prepares simple legal documents.
4.
Conducts simple investigations and verifies facts relating to assigned cases.
5.
Assists in preparing a codification of local ordinance.
6.
Assists in drafting messages to be submitted to a legislative body.
7.
Composes legal notices for publication.
8.
Researches and reports on legality of proposed ordinances and local laws.
9.
Assists in maintaining a law library.
10.
Assists library users in locating legal information.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of legal research and preparation of simple legal documents.
2.Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
3.Knowledge of legal resources, reference materials and methods of law library maintenance.
4.Ability to conduct research and simple routine investigations.
5.Ability to prepare reports and simple legal documents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Must be attending a regionally or New York State accredited law school.
