GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises the activities of a small group of lifeguards and participates in safeguarding the lives of patrons using the water facility; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require judgment in supervising subordinate lifeguards at their posts, assigning specific duties in administering first aid, and directing the use of various types of equipment used in lifesaving activities

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Patrols areas and observes activities; enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents or injuries.
*
2.Assists with rescue of helpless swimmers; administers first aid and applies resuscitation measures when necessary.
*
3.Keeps first aid supplies and resuscitation equipment ready for immediate use.
4.May give swimming instructions; assists in the preparation of accident reports.

5.Supervises subordinate lifeguards.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of first aid, rescue, and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
2.Considerable knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
3.Considerable swimming skill.
4.Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
5.Ability to prepare accurate reports.
6.Ability to establish effective relationships with associates and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Grade I A or B - Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/70 vision in one eye, corrected to 20/40.
4.One season of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard.

Grade II - Calm Water and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.One season of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard.

Grade III - Ocean, Calm Water, and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.One season of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
