GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Appears before local criminal courts and performs all functions of the Assistant District Attorneys; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of an Assistant District Attorney, law school graduates may serve for a period as prescribed in Judiciary Law, Article 15,§478, while awaiting notification for admission to the Bar of the State of New York and will receive intensive in-court training before performing any function.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Conducts arraignment proceedings and pretrial and post-conviction hearings before the State Supreme Court, and the County Court.
*
2.Conducts arguments pertaining to appeals before the appellate courts.
*
3.Prepares and submits documents, briefs, and memoranda of law to the Courts.
*
4.Assists the Assistant District Attorney in making presentations before a Grand Jury.
5.Compiles data for special projects, as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of basic legal principles, practices, and procedures related to the prosecution of crimes.
2.Knowledge of applicable statutes, laws, Court decisions, and rulings pertaining to violations of laws.
3.Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
4.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental and Court staffs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Possession of a Law degree from a regionally, nationally, or American Bar Association accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Participation in first available written examination to practice law in the State of New York but no notification received of failure to pass the initial examination.

NOTE:Disapproval by the Committee on Character and Fitness shall result in termination in the position.
In the event of failure to pass the initial examination, appointment may be made or continue, contingent upon taking and passing the next available examination.
