GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Operates machine tools for the fabrication and repair of metal items of machinery and equipment; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the position requires skill and the use of judgment and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Shapes metal objects, using lathes, shapers, planers, slotters, power saws, milling machines, drill presses, or other similar metal working power equipment; uses tapes, dips, reamers, files, and other hand tools.
2.Uses micrometer and other precision measuring instruments.
3.Dismantles equipment and makes repairs to wide variety of appliances and tools.
4.Makes machinery and equipment repairs and adjustments in shop or in field.
5.Uses electric and acetylene welders or soldering irons in making repairs.
6.Assembles and tests equipment.
7.Performs a variety of non-mechanical maintenance and repair tasks as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the machinist trade.
2.Knowledge of the operation and repair of a wide variety of machine tools and machine equipment.
3.Skill in the care and use of a wide variety of metal working hand tools.
4.Ability to work from sketches, blueprints, and models.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of a satisfactory course or training program in machine shop
and
Two years of satisfactory experience as a machinist under a skilled journeyman machinist;
or
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.
