GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Paints buildings, fixtures, and equipment in an institution and/or public agency; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment and skill, and the work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Prepares surfaces by burning, and/or sandpapering, and/or scraping; applies surfacing when required.
*
2.Mixes and matches paints and stains.
*
3.Applies paint, stain, varnish, and/or other finishes to interiors and exteriors of buildings, and/or fixtures, and/or equipment using spray gun, roller, and/or brushes.
*
4.Cleans spray guns, brushes, and other painting equipment.
*
5.Rigs and erects ladders, and spreads drop cloths.
*
6.Caulks window frames, door frames, or louvers, as required.
7.Performs nonpainting maintenance and repair tasks, as required.
8.Hangs and/or applies wallpaper, as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the painting trade.
2.Skill in the care and use of painting tools, equipment, and materials.
3.Skill in the application of paints and other finishes with brushes, spray guns, and/or rollers to a variety of surfaces.
4.Ability to perform a variety of nonpainting maintenance and repair tasks.
5.Ability to prepare surfaces to be painted and/or papered, and to mix and match paint.
6.Ability to rig and erect scaffolding and to work at heights from scaffolding and ladders.
7.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Four years of satisfactory experience working with a skilled journey-level painter.
