GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Inspects aircraft and performs skilled aviation mechanical work on Nassau County Police Department aircraft; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the duties require mechanical skill and the exercise of judgment in developing effective work procedures and aircraft maintenance schedules.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Performs skilled aviation mechanical work on Police Department aircraft.
2.Inspects aircraft and analyzes cause of craft malfunction.
3.Performs operational checks of systems using external power sources.
4.Removes, disassembles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, reassembles, installs, or replaces all aircraft engines, components and systems and parts.
5.Performs schedules maintenance work at the main base of operation and unscheduled maintenance work wherever needed.
6.Installs, connects, and adjusts fuel, electrical and hydraulic systems.
7.Maintains records and prepares requisitions for equipment, tools, and parts.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of aviation mechanics and of the equipment, tools, materials, supplies, methods, and procedures used in maintaining and repairing helicopters and aircraft.
2.Considerable skill in the care and use of tools and equipment for repairing and maintaining aircraft.
3.Ability to analyze and diagnose the cause or nature of aircraft malfunction.
4.Ability to develop appropriate aircraft maintenance schedules.
5.Ability to perform difficult repair, installations, and maintenance work on aircraft.
6.Ability to maintain records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Four years of satisfactory experience in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of aircraft, airframes, engines, and related equipment, such experience to have been obtained after attainment of prescribed certificate.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a valid Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
