GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of tasks in the care, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of a firehouse and fire apparatus; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties are routine and the work is reviewed for quality and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Cleans and polishes fire apparatus and ambulance when garaged at the firehouse.
2.Assists in making minor repairs and in maintaining equipment and fire trucks in working order.
3.Checks batteries, tires, fuel, oil, and water levels of fire trucks.
4.Drives trucks to service stations for refueling and major repairs.
5.Cleans, maintains, and performs minor repairs to the firehouse and grounds and removes snow from driveways and other approaches.
6.Operates various maintenance vehicles throughout the fire district, as required.
7.May assist in receiving radio, telephone, or alarm notification of fires or other calls requesting emergency use of firehouse equipment, and sound firehouse alarm notifying volunteer fire officers and dispatching equipment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods employed in cleaning operations.
2.Ability to make minor building repairs.
3.Ability to accurately relay emergency telephone and radio calls.
4.Ability to keep simple records.
5.Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of eighth grade education
and
One year of satisfactory experience as a cleaner or janitor.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver License issued by the State of New York.
