GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises subordinate lifeguards and safeguards lives of patrons using water facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in assisting in training and instructing subordinate lifeguard personnel in methods and techniques of water safety and lifesaving, and in use of related equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Supervises lifesaving activities within an assigned area.

2.Assists with rescue of helpless swimmers, administers first aid, and applies resuscitation measures when necessary.

3.Enforces rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to the use of water facilities.
4.Conducts swimming and lifesaving classes for patrons.

*TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of lifesaving methods and techniques and water safety measures.
2.Thorough knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
3.Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
4.Considerable swimming skill.
5.Ability to supervise and train subordinates.
6.Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
7.Ability to prepare accurate reports.
8.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Grade I A or B - Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/70 vision in one eye, corrected to 20/40.
4.Two seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

Grade II - Calm Water and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Two seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Must be in satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.Must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Two seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, including one season in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirement
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
