GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs, coordinates, and supervises the exhibits program of the Nassau County Museum system, including design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve the exercise of judgment in directing the planning, designing, and building of a variety of exhibits used for educational, display, or promotional purposes and coordinating contractual construction. Supervision is exercised over subordinate Exhibits Technicians and assigned laborers

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Coordinates the planning, designing, and building of exhibits involving the use of paintings, photographs, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing devices including moving parts and lighting effects and dioramas.
2.Assists the Museum Director in determining the extent of the museum exhibition program, including time scheduling and coordination of exhibit themes and curatorial assistance.
3.Prepares exhibit contract specifications for new exhibits and exhibit facilities; maintains liaison with Department of Public Works and contractors for exhibition construction.
4.Directs and advises subordinate Exhibits Technicians in the construction of exhibits.
5.Supervises the audio-visual and publications program of County museums, including the designing, ordering, maintaining, and controlling of inventory.
6.Assists in determining budget for museum exhibition program.
7.Prepares reports and maintains records.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the principles of layout and design of exhibits and displays.
2.Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, and materials used in designing and building mechanical and electrical exhibits.
3.Thorough knowledge of audio-visual devices and equipment.
4.Ability to prepare original designs for exhibits.
5.Ability to direct a museum exhibition program.
6.Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
7.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative personnel, subordinates, and contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
with major course work in Art
and
Eight years of satisfactory experience in planning, designing, developing, and constructing exhibits and displays including two years in an administrative or highly responsible supervisory capacity.

NOTE:a)A Master's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with major course work in Art may be substituted for one year of experience.
b)Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the eight-year requirement may be substituted for college on a year-for year basis up to a maximum of four years.
c)The two-year requirement of administrative or highly responsible supervisory experience must be met in either case.
