GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic at a specified location for the purpose of protecting children and other persons; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the duties involve the use of judgment in controlling the flow of traffic at street intersections to protect pedestrians crossing.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1.Directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic at an assigned street intersection or crossing point; regulates directional flow of vehicular traffic in order to enable children and other pedestrians to cross street; signals instructions and directions to operators of motor vehicles or pedestrians at crossing point.

2.Swears to warrants of arrest in cases of flagrant traffic violations or traffic accidents resulting in serious injury or damage; reports minor traffic incidents to Police Department for appropriate police action.
3.Takes note of unusual or suspicious occurrences or actions of individuals, and alerts police officers in cases of observed or suspected violations of laws and ordinances over which the Police Department has jurisdiction.
4.Observes variations in traffic flow and conditions at assigned crossing post and reports extent of use of crossing points by children and other pedestrians.
5.Performs routine clerical functions directly related to the completion and filing of above-mentioned reports, as required, during periods between daily crossing post assignments.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of State and local traffic rules and regulations.
2.Knowledge of traffic control practices and procedures.
3.Ability to act quickly in emergency situations.
4.Ability to observe, record, and report findings.
5.Ability to adequately utilize hearing, vision, and other physical attributes to perform the essential functions of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school.

Necessary Special Requirement
Candidates are required to pass hearing test.
