GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides for aid and care of patients while traveling in ambulance; assists in care and maintenance of ambulances and cars; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties require the use of judgment and tact in the transportation by ambulance of ill persons, accident victims, and others.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists drivers in transferring patients in and out of ambulance.
2.Assists drivers in rendering first aide to patients, when necessary.
3.Assists in restraining violent patients.
4.Cleans cars and ambulances.
5.Inspects and restocks vehicles with necessary medical supplies.
6.Provides assistance in mental hygiene wards, when required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Skill and ability in handling emergency situations.
2.Skill in handling violent patients in as gentle a manner as possible.
3.Ability to lift heavy loads in a delicate manner.
4.Ability to make simple written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Completion of eighth grade education
and either
Completion of an elementary Red Cross First Aid course;
or
Possession of certificate as Emergency or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician issued by New York State Department of Health.
