GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Acts as consultant in the Speech and Hearing Center of the Nassau County Medical Center relevant to all problems relating to hearing difficulties; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under supervision, the position is professional and requires the exercise of independent judgment in maintaining high level therapeutic and diagnosis efficiency at the Speech and Hearing Center.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises the activities of the Speech and Hearing Center and recommends treatment procedures, program development, and operational techniques.
2.Participates in in-service training regarding audiological principles in speech pathology.
3.Serves as a team member with other ancillary services and attends administrative meetings.
4.Administers audiological tests and evaluates findings in indicated cases.
5.Checks equipment, as required, and makes recommendation for purchase of new equipment.
6.Reviews annual budget to include personnel, equipment and materials.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices employed in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing defects.
2.Thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology as related to hearing.
3.Thorough knowledge of the various testing devices to determine hearing loss.
4.Ability to administer audiological tests and evaluate findings.
5.Ability to supervise the activities of the Speech and Hearing Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Ph.D. in Audiology from a regionally accredited or New York State registered university
and
Five years of satisfactory experience in audiology and speech therapy including three years of clinical experience in the practice of audiology.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a license and current registration by New York State Education Department as an Audiologist.
