GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs and supervises subordinate lifeguards and the safeguarding of lives of patrons using water facilities; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties involve training and instructing subordinate lifeguard personnel in methods and techniques of water safety and lifesaving and in use of related equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Conducts regular lifesaving drills throughout the season.
*2.Prepares time and work schedules and assigns specific tasks and work areas to subordinates.
3.Supervises the care and use of all lifeguard equipment.
4.Inspects equipment and work areas for safety and cleanliness of facilities for the patrons.
5.Directs lifesaving activities and prepares detailed reports on accidents and rescues.
6.Assumes responsibility for enforcing rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to the use of water facilities.
7.Supervises maintenance of time records.
8.Evaluates performance of subordinate lifeguard personnel.
9.Acts as liaison between lifeguard crew and management.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of lifesaving methods and techniques and water safety measures.
2.Thorough knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and equipment.
3.Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities.
4.Considerable swimming skill.
5.Ability to direct, supervise, and train subordinates.
6.Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
7.Ability to prepare accurate reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
GRADE I A or B - Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment
2.Satisfactory medical condition as attested to by a physician.
3.At least 20/70 vision in one eye, corrected to 20/40.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, of which one year was in a supervisory capacity.

GRADE II - Calm Water and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Satisfactory medical condition attested to by a physician.
3.At least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, of which one year was in a supervisory capacity.

GRADE III - Ocean, Calm Water, and Swimming Pool
1.At least eighteen years of age prior to appointment.
2.Satisfactory medical condition attested to by a physician.
3.At least 20/40 vision in one eye, without corrective lenses.
4.Three seasons of satisfactory experience as a lifeguard, of which one year was in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Special Requirements
1.Continuing possession of the appropriate grade, current, valid lifeguard certificate issued by the Nassau County Department of Health or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
2.Continuing possession of a current, valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or a New York State Department of Health accepted equivalent certificate.
