GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs routine and manual tasks in the preparation and serving of food in a penal institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the work is routine and repetitive. Judgment is required in maintaining institutional security.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Prepares and serves salads, eggs, toast, pancakes, coffee and other simple foods.
2.Participates in the preparation of trays and food carts.
3.Delivers food carts to proper locations.
4.Follows carefully instructions when preparing each tray or food cart.
5.Scrapes dishes and utensils when they are returned from dining areas.
6.Cleans work area, dining area and all related equipment.
7.Obtains food and supplies from distribution area.
8.Assists dietitians, food service supervisors and cooks as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Ability to learn the preparation of required foods.
2.Ability to learn to serve correct foods to inmates on regular and modified diets.
3.Ability to learn proper procedure for serving trays to inmates.
4.Ability to learn the methods, procedures and operation of equipment and machines used in the preparation of food, service of food and cleaning of ware, kitchens, work areas, dining rooms and related areas and equipment.
5.Ability to learn and observe sanitary and safety regulations.
6.Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
7.Ability to learn the care and use of firearms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English.

Necessary Special Requirement
Candidates for this title cannot be approved until they have satisfactory Civil Service medical and psychological reports.
