GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, coordinates, and directs the total operation and management of the A. Holly Patterson Geriatric Center; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under the administrative direction of the Executive Director of the Nassau County Medical Center, the position requires the use of independent judgment in the operation and management of the Geriatric Center.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1.Develops and implements administrative policies and operating procedures in accordance with state and federal standards, Medical Center policies, and the deliverance of good institutional health care.
*2.Directs the preparation and control of the institution's budget while insuring the delivery of good patient care services.
*3.Formulates and supervises the implementation of staff recruitment and training programs.
*4.Coordinates the varied services and activities of the skilled nursing facility.
*5.Represents the A. Holly Patterson Geriatric Center at professional and community meetings and interprets the role of the Center.
*6.Maintains liaison with the executives of various hospitals, health care facilities, County departments, and other governmental agencies.
*7.Prepares reports as required.
8.Recommends purchase of new equipment, as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of institutional management as related to long-term care.
2.Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning nursing home operation.
3.Thorough knowledge of the modern developments and current literature in the fields of institutional administration, geriatrics, and related social services.
4.Knowledge of large-scale food preparation and service.
5.Knowledge of building maintenance operations.
6.Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of professional, administrative, and supervisory personnel.
7.Ability to develop and evaluate programs and operational procedures.
8.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, public officials and subordinate staff.
9.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Master's degree in Health Services Administration, Health Care Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Health Administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Eight years of satisfactory hospital or skilled nursing facility administration experience;
or
2.Master's degree in Public Administration, or a Master's degree in Business Administration with concentration in Management from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Nine years of satisfactory hospital or skilled nursing facility administration experience.

Necessary Special Requirement
Continuing possession of a current, valid New York State Nursing Home Administrator license.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the eight- or nine-year requirement, may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree and Master's degree on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of six years.
