GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, performs responsible work in the supervision of workers and equipment engaged in the maintenance and repair of roads and in the collection and disposal of refuse and waste; performs related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Supervises the work of workers and equipment in the repair, resurfacing and maintenance of roads, installation of catch basins, pipe lines and drainage systems and in snow-removal operations.
2.Supervises the operation of road maintenance equipment such as graders, loaders, sweepers, rollers, oilers and snow plows; supervises garage and yard labor work.
3.Makes road inspections and checks the progress of work; investigates complaints and accidents involving condition of roads and reports thereon.
4.Plans and assigns daily work and collection routes for workers and equipment engaged in refuse collection; dispatches and direct operation of garbage trucks.
5.Inspects trucks and crews on garbage and rubbish collection routes to assure proper and expeditious performance of work and coverage of routes; investigates complaints and institutes appropriate remedial action.
6.Supervises maintenance of motor equipment used in road work and in the collection and disposal of refuse and waste; may be responsible for incinerator plant operations.
7.Maintains time and work records; orders material and supplies; may participate in the preparation of budget requests.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in road maintenance and repair work.
2.Extensive knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in garbage and waste collection and disposal.
3.Ability to assign and supervise the work of subordinates.
4.Ability to use sound judgment in dealing with people involving the handling of complaints.
5.Ability to keep time and work records and to prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from elementary school and four years of experience in road maintenance and repair work and in refuse and waste collection operations;
or,
2.Satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.
