GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs responsible work in assisting in the administration of the highway maintenance program; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require planning, organizing and directing the activities of subordinates.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Assists in preparation of the work program and related budget schedules.
2.Supervises clerical operation in the office of the Superintendent of Highways in latter's absence.
3.Verifies validity of claims for materials, supplies and equipment prior to submission to the Superintendent for approval.
4.Receives complaints regarding condition of the roads and highways and forwards claims to Highway Foreman for investigation and report.
5.Acts as liaison with utility companies on problems of mutual concern and interest.
6.Assists in snow and ice control by making road inspections and operating the radio to receive and transmit reports of conditions of roads and highways to work road crews.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in highway maintenance.
2.Considerable knowledge of contract billing and payment procedures.
3.Ability to assist in the direction of highway maintenance and construction programs.
4.Ability to conduct highway operations.
5.Ability to interpret and prepare detailed reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
High school graduate
and
Seven years experience in highway or bridge Maintenance or construction activities including three years in a supervisory capacity.
